YOU-R-O-TEENS

eyes on the future

Teens in Europe / Europeans

Hello,

I am working on a photography project about teenagers in the age of 12 to 18. I am doing this because they have a look that fascinates me and reminds me of my own time as a teenager, a time that I found exciting and often fun.

I have a request, and that is why you as a teenager, or as parent or acquaintance of a teenager, are receiving this letter and some photographs. I am looking for teenagers who are willing to be photographed by me. Perhaps you would help me in contacting teenagers who would like to participate, of perhaps if you are a teenager you would yourself like to pose.

The past three years Europe is constantly in the news. Topics are the euro, the debt economy, the cultural and social differences, and the way that politicians react. This has made me more and more curious about teenagers in other European countries. How do they experience their world? What do their surroundings look like? What do they expect of their future and of Europe? After all, Europe also looks a bit like a teenager, large steps forward, small steps back, lots of emotion, turning against authorities. In short, Europe in many respects resembles an explorative teenager, and just keeps on growing towards adulthood.

My goal is to portrait three teenagers per country, and to exhibit these portraits. I want to make the portraits in the teenagers own surroundings: his or her home, garden, street or room.

In addition I want to explore whether a community of EU teenagers can materialize, for instance via Facebook, who can exchange their portraits and stories. Who knows, perhaps a new, shared European language for the future will arise.

Since 2008 I have been developing as a photographer, next to my profession in natural medicine and my work as a specialized nurse in kidney diseases.

To give an impression of the teenager project, I have enclosed several photographs. I ask of the teenagers and their parents to agree with public presentation of the photographs via exhibitions, publications and internet. They receive a dvd of the photographs.

If you would like to know more, phone, mail or text me.
